rubber

Rubber is an elastic hydrocarbon polymer which occurs as a milky emulsion (known as latex) in the sap of several varieties of plants. Rubber can also be produced synthetically. Synthetic rubber is made through the polymerisation of a variety of monomers to produce polymers. These form part of a broad study covered by Polymer science and Rubber technology.

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 (Bernama) -- Natural rubber output in the country is again expected to surpass RM1 million tonnes in 2006 and boost export earnings, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities, Datuk Peter Chin Fah Kui said.

For the last two years NR output has exceeded one million tonnes per year.

"Barring unforeseen circumstances, I expect our annual rubber production this year would also easily surpass last year's output.

"We believe that for 2006, export earnings from the rubber sector would continue to play an important role, and that its contribution would be comparable to, if not more than 2005," Peter Chin said.

Last year, the performance of the natural rubber industry towards the nation's overall development and growth was encouraging, he said.
